I am writing to introduce myself. My name is Martin Langsdon and I am the new Chair of North Norfolk Labour Party. I was elected at the recent Annual General Meeting and am keen to work together with all members to take forward the work of the party here in North Norfolk and in the UK as a whole. I have lived in Sheringham for 14 years and work in Norwich as a University Lecturer in Counselling. I consider it a real privilege to live in this beautiful part of the country but am also aware of large numbers of problems here in North Norfolk that are all too familiar from the national scene. These include major issues with National Health Service under-funding and its impact on mental health provision, ambulance services, care provision and housing. Police services are also being affected by Tory austerity measures including recently announced plans to remove PCSOs from North Norfolk streets. The chaos of resignations and defections among Tory District Councillors reflects the chaos and instability of the Tory government nationally.
Now is the time for Labour members and supporters to mount effective challenges to the dominant Tory administrations locally and nationally and to the ineffective and collusive Liberal Democrat opposition including the local MP. We can work together to hold those in power to account and be the voice of the people – for the many not the few. I hope to meet with you soon at All Member meetings, the Xmas Social and out and about campaigning.
