With the Government divided and divisive, people are crying out for an alternative. An alternative to cuts that hit services and the vulnerable just to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. Last week’s Budget has prompted anger and disgust at the Tory choices and attacks on the most vulnerable.
Astonishingly at a student question at Paston College two days after the Budget, Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, suggested that the only alternative to Tory austerity is a return to the failed regime of the USSR. That was met with the contempt it deserves.
What we need is an economy where we invest in the infrastructure that everyone uses – from transport and broadband to housing and public services. Such an economy would promote businesses and growth and support the most vulnerable by ensuring fairer taxation for all.
It is possible because Britain is still one of the richest countries in the world. It just needs a new approach and a new leadership.
In North Norfolk, Labour Party membership has more than trebled in the last twelve months. Come and join us and the growing number of people who want to see an alternative for a better Britain in a better world.
