The residents of North Norfolk deserve to be better served by their elected councillors. Currently only Tories and Lib Dems represent the constituents of North Norfolk.
These councillors awarded themselves a 23% increase in their pay while council workers have had their wages limited to a 1% increase. Not content with this, North Walsham Lib Dem Councillor Anne Moore had a 39% absence from council meetings in 2015–2016 but she still accepted the increase!
Even worse was Tory Councillor Ben Jarvis whose non-attendance for more than six months necessitated a by-election for the Waterside ward at a cost to the council of at least £3,000 – money that could have been spent on vital public services instead.
David Spencer (pictured, furthest right on the top row) said: “It’s a disgrace that we pay councillors good allowances but others have to cover their work for them. This has been going on for years and it has to stop. This would not last long in a normal working environment.”
And more shocking are the cases of non-payment of council tax by some councillors. In 2015-16 North Norfolk district council had to issue summons and won liability orders against four of its own councillors: Roy Reynolds (Tory), Anne Claussen-Reynolds (Tory), Steven Ward (Tory) and Andreas Yiasimi (Lib Dem). Despite this, Councillors Anne Claussen-Reynolds and Roy Reynolds were also summonsed for 2016 -17 liability orders.
